New patient or First consultation

If your family doctor or other physician has given you a consultation to meet a rheumatologist, you must follow the procedure below:

  • Make sure your name and contact details are readable on the consultation.

        *** Important: Please indicate the phone number (s) where you can be reached during the day.

  • Include all your relevant exam results with the consultation. Latest blood tests, x-rays, scans, bone densitometry, EMG, etc. Note that if you have a CD of your X-rays, you will have to bring it to the appointment.

When we receive your request for an appointment, your file will be evaluated by our clinical nurse. If necessary, she will contact you for more information.                                                                                             

Requests for a first consultation are prioritized in three categories:

  • Urgent: less than 6 weeks

  • Semi urgent: 6 to 12 weeks

  • Non-urgent: more than 12 weeks

Our receptionists will communicate with you to schedule an appointment with one of our rheumatologists. Please note that to meet the deadlines according to the priority of your request, it is possible that the availabilities are restricted.

*** Please note that you must reapply for an appointment if you have not seen your rheumatologist for a year.***

Request for consultation by a health professional.

The Institute of Rheumatology of Montreal benefits from the services and expertise of 11 rheumatologists. Due to some delay in the referral system and almost no waiting time at the IRM, we invite you to directly refer your patients to the Institute or through the CRDS mentioning specifically the Institut de Rhumatologie de Montréal. According to the information you will send, we will evaluate these patients in the most appropriate time limit.
